The latest impact in Kerala is the attack of the Nipah virus a deadly virus that is spread by fruit-eating bats. The first occurrence of the disease was in the last year 2018 and it is the second time that the Nipah is hitting Kerala.
HOW THE VIRUS SPREAD
●First, it is transmitted from fruit-eating bats.
●From the bats, it is transmitted or spread to animals like pigs.
●From there it is spread to humans.
●And last it spreads from humans to other humans in contact.
FACTS ABOUT NIPAH
●Nipah virus got its name from a Malaysian village from where it is first discovered.
●Nipah virus was first discovered in Singapore and Malaysia.
●It was discovered in 1998.
●It is associated with inflammation of the brain.
SYMPTOMS OF NIPAH VIRUS
●Fever followed by a headache.
●Inflammation of the brain due to fever.
●Some find respiratory symptoms at early.
●And all this results in a coma stage within 24-48 hours.
PREVENTION OR SAFETY MEASURES TAKEN TO AVOID NIPAH VIRUS:
●Ensure that food is not contaminated by bats.
●Do not eat fruits that are bitten by bats.
●One needs to safeguard for oneself after coming in contact with the person who has been affected by the virus.
